Darren Till Granted UFC Release
The UFC and Darren Till have mutually agreed to part ways. Till requested his release after spending over eight years with the promotion.
Till started his UFC career hot as he entered the promotion with a 5-0-1 record. This made him one of the brightest young prospects in the sport. Unfortunately, his career went straight downhill once he earned a welterweight title shot against Tryon Woodley. This led to a 1-5 record as Till could not defeat Woodley and he struggled to get back on track afterward.
Till also teased his first post-UFC career news.
It looks like Till will be entering the world of boxing. With the current state of boxing, that could mean a variety of things. It could mean a boxing contest against another former UFC fighter, or it could mean a bare-knuckle boxing match against another notable name. Not to mention, Till could opt to enter the influencer boxing sphere. That does not seem as likely though.
As far as opponents go, Till will have plenty of options. The current state of MMA free agency is a massive reason for that. Till could be in line to fight former UFC fighters like Luke Rockhold or Mike Perry who are both outside of the UFC’s grasp. Nate Diaz is also a free agent, but I am not sure that Till will be that lucky.
The real question here is in the long term for Till. At this point, Till is only 30 years old. That gives him plenty of time to attempt a UFC return. Even though Till has struggled in the past, it is not time to give up on him. If Till is able to get healthy and improve a few fundamental skills, he could return to the UFC rankings. A few wins in the boxing ring may help him get his confidence back too.
