Five-star EDGE Damon Wilson commits to Georgia
Five-star EDGE rusher Damon Wilson has committed to Georgia. Wilson is ranked 13th overall in the 2023 class and second for his position, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Wilson played his high school football at Venice in Venice, Florida, where he tallied 15 sacks as a junior and nine as a senior, showing his natural ability to rush the passer. He has a variety of pass-rush moves he can utilize and is overall very technically sound. While not the lengthiest for a pass rusher, he more than makes up for it with his agility and extremely high motor.
As for Georgia, it just seems like the rich get richer. The Bulldogs routinely bolster one of the best defenses in college football, which probably played a part in Wilson’s decision. It seems that trend will continue with the addition of Wilson and other recruits Georgia was able to bring in.
Wilson is the 25th commit for Georgia and gives them the second-best class overall, behind only Alabama. Wilson is only the second five-star of coach Kirby Smart’s latest bunch, with the first being cornerback AJ Harris.
It’s clear that Georgia is continuing to prioritize the defensive side of the ball and bringing in these two guys should allow that defense to thrive in the near future.
The addition of Damon Wilson should be huge for this Bulldogs defense that looks to continue its streak of dominance. Whether or not he will play as a freshman is still to be decided but either way, it works out. He can either produce immediately or sit back and learn from some of the best defensive players and coaches in the country.
