Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott have been teammates for a long time. The two were actually drafted the same year when Dallas pulled the trigger on Elliott with the 4th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Dak was later picked in the 4th round that same year. It will be the first time in Dak’s career that he takes the field for the Cowboys and Zeke isn’t his teammate. Weird…
“I really can’t imagine taking the field without him,” Prescott said Thursday, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
“It’s tough,” Prescott said. “A brother, playing the game with a brother, being able to start this NFL career and share so many memories and grow up as men.
“I don’t know if it has completely hit me yet. Obviously, I’ve talked to him. I’m hurt, and I’m sure he is. But it’s more important for me to be able to be there to support him.”
If the Cowboys had a do-over, they probably would have went with Florida State cornerback Jalen Ramsey who went with the very next pick that year. Then again, it’s hard to have total regret if you’re the Cowboys. Elliott helped take control of the offense in the early days of the partnership as Dak was still developing. Zeke rushed for 5,405 yards in his first 56 games and established himself as one of the premier backs in the NFL. As we have learned with the running back position, it just doesn’t really last long.
