Scott says that the Colts have a type. Maybe their type doesn’t apply to the backup quarterback position? While it feels inevitable that the Colts will draft Will Levis, we may already know who his mentor will be in Indianapolis. Gardner Minshew is heading back to the AFC South after spending some time with the Philadelphia Eagles!
Tom Peliserro of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
The fit does make some sense for this one particular reason. Shane Steichen is the new head coach of the Colts. Of course, that’s the same guy who spent the 2022 season helping guide the Eagles to the Super Bowl. Steichen’s play calling did wonders for Jalen Hurts. Steichen has familiarity with Minshew and did speak highly of him in the past.
“I think he’s really intelligent,” Steichen said in 2021. “He’s a football junkie.”
Minshew, 26, is back in the AFC South after originally being drafted by the Jaguars. Indianapolis has nothing to do with the south but that’s a story for another day that I still to do this day find hilarious. The Colts also needed a back up quarterback. Sam Ehlinger stinks (as I’ve been trying to tell you for years) and Indy already released Matt Ryan (who I also tried to tell you was washed).
Minshew currently sports a 44-15 career TD to INT ratio even though most of that damage came during his time with the Jaguars. In 2022, the former Washington State quarterback struggled during his short stint with the Eagles completing 58% of his throws with a 3-3 TD to INT ratio.
