Dak Prescott to have surgery on right thumb; expected to miss 6-8 Weeks
How bout them boyz? If losing to Tom Brady 19-3 wasn’t bad enough for the Cowboys, they also lost their franchise quarterback for half the season. Dak Prescott suffered a hand injury Sunday night, which will require surgery on his right thumb.
It’s expected that Prescott will miss 6-8 weeks, a huge loss for a Cowboys team that already didn’t look strong.
Prescott suffered the injury in the 4th quarter of their home opener against the Buccaneers. While throwing a pass, he hit his right hand on linebacker Shaq Barrett. Prescott will meet with hand specialists on Monday, but it is expected he will have a pin and plate put in to stabilize the joint.
Prescott spoke after the game and said he thought he just jammed his finger. However, he saw a fracture on the X-ray after going into the locker room.
“I was told it was much cleaner than it could have been,” Prescott said after the game while wearing a splint on his right hand.
Cowboys are looking at another disappointing season, as it’s the second injury in three years for the Dallas quarterback.
The Cowboys already weren’t looking good in their home opener. Only being able to score 3 points against the Bucs with a much weaker offense than last season. Wide receiver Amari Cooper was traded to the Browns in the offseason, and Michael Gallup was ruled out with a knee injury. Not to mention the departures of Cedrick Wilson, Connor Williams, and La’el Collins.
Star receiver CeeDee Lamb and tight end Dalton Shultz were Prescott’s only true weapons. Even with those two, the Cowboys offense couldn’t get it going. Lamb only had two receptions for 29 yards and Shultz had seven receptions for 62 yards.
Prescott didn’t have himself a great game prior to exiting, either. Completing 14-of-29 passes for 134 yards, with an interception and two sacks. This was the first time since 2001 that the Cowboys didn’t score a touchdown in their home opener.
With Prescott out, the Cowboys will turn to backup quarterback Cooper Rush. Facing the Bengals in week two, Rush will be making his second career start. His first came out victorious last year, defeating the Minnesota Vikings when Prescott was out with a calf strain.
Well, the Cowboys are usually one of the biggest memes in the NFL. The loss of Prescott will only make things worse for their fans, and many have to wonder when this team will finally have the pieces to win something.
