Don’t ask me why the Cowboys think they’re a contender but here we are. Dallas sits 3-5 and Dak Prescott is about to go on injured reserve. Don’t worry! Dallas is adding a bust receiver from Carolina because I’m sure that will fix all of their problems! Jonathan Mingo has been traded to the Cowboys.
The Cowboys will receive Mingo and a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network was the first to report the full details of the trade.
Mingo, 23, posted 43 receptions for 418 yards as a rookie. The former 2023 second round pick notched 12 catches for 121 yards this season. Mingo, an Ole Miss product, has played just 56% of the offensive snaps for Carolina through nine games. He’s also been passed on the depth chart by Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker.
For Dallas, this certainly gives them another receiver. It’s fair to question if a guy who hasn’t caught a pass since October 13th can actually help them. CeeDee is the team’s clear number one option. Brandin Cooks is hurt and Jalen Tolbert isn’t exactly a world-beater. For this deal to make sense, Mingo has to emerge as the secondary target in the offense. Time will tell if that actually comes to fruition.
More than anything, I think it’s fair to question why the Cowboys aren’t sellers. Does this team actually think they’re still in it? Why not sell for more picks instead of giving them away?
