Before I begin here, I just want to give a quick shoutout to Gary Lawless. He does an excellent job covering the Golden Knights on the team website. He recently posted about Pavel Dorofeyev being a fantasy hockey sleeper and wanted to add my spin on it. As the site’s resident VGK fan and undefeated king of fantasy hockey, I feel obligated to do so.
Dorofeyev, 24, is off to a hot start to begin the 2024-25 NHL Season. The Russian winger has 10 points in 12 games including seven goals. He’s found a ton of success on the second line with Brett Howden and Tomas Hertl funneling him looks. While Victor Olofsson is on IR, he’s also been inserted on the top unit Powerplay.
The former third round during the 2019 NHL Draft just keeps getting better and better. Last year, Dorofeyev popped 13 goals in 47 goals. This year, it sure looks like he’s going to be a mainstay in the lineup and will shatter his previous career high in points.
Life is about expectations. I keep going back to this because I think it’s the best way to describe what’s going on here.
To the surprise of no one who is actually intelligent, Jonathan Marchessault has done next to nothing and the Predators stink. Vegas needed a couple of these wingers to pop. All of the signs point to Dorofeyev being that guy who took a mother may I step forward leap. Recognize it and take advantage. If you’re in a deep league, I don’t mind taking the shot here. 30 goals is within reach. Just don’t expect him to win your league for you. It’s a worthy dart throw on the waiver wire and if you treat it as such, Dorofeyev is a logical pick up.
