Cooper Kupp Is A Must Have For 2021 Fantasy Football
Cooper Kupp is one of the most underrated receivers in this league. Kupp is not a burner and is not going to beat you with his speed, but his route running is elite, and his hands are as sure as they come. Kupp has been productive during his time with the Rams, and after the Lions traded Jared Goff and some first-round picks for Matt Stafford, Cooper Kupp is poised to have a huge 2021 season.
Kupp had a solid 2020 season with 92 receptions, 974 yards, and three touchdowns, which landed him as the 26th ranked wide receiver in PPR leagues. The most important stat when it comes to Kupp is his 120 plus targets in back-to-back seasons. Even with Jared Goff, Kupp was getting a huge volume of targets. I only expect that number to increase with Matt Stafford under center.
A couple of things are working in Kupp’s favor heading into 2021. First, they just massively upgraded at quarterback with Matt Stafford. Sean McVay was tired of Jared Goff’s inability to throw the ball down the field, and that was evident went they shipped him off to Detroit. Stafford is an elite arm talent in this league and has shown he can move the ball down the field with ease.
Second, Tom Pellisero reported that second-year running back Cam Akers tore his Achilles. This is a huge blow for the Rams as Akers was poised for a breakout season. The Rams also lost running back Malcolm Brown to the Dolphins in free agency. Without their top two running backs heading into the 2021 season, the Rams are going to air the football out. The Rams’ offensive line also lost center Austin Blythe to the Chiefs, and while Rob Havenstein and Andrew Whitworth are solid tackles, I have questions about their interior offensive lineman. Average o-line plus no star running back plus upgraded quarterback equals a surplus of passing plays.
Finally, outside of Robert Woods, who is going to take catches away from Kupp? Gerald Everett is gone, DeSean Jackson is washed, and Van Jefferson had 19 receptions in 2020. Kupp and Woods will see the majority of targets. Kupp’s floor is WR2, but if Stafford and the Rams get rolling early, I could see Kupp having a top-15 receiver season.
