CM Punk is making his highly anticipated return to AEW on the debut episode of Collision. Punk made his epic return to the world of professional wrestling in 2021. Although he had a good run, it didn’t end how everyone wanted.
Following everything that happened at All Out, Punk was suspended, Punk also suffered an injury earlier in the night. He tore his tricep in his match with MJF which is about an eight-month timetable for a return.
Also, there was an investigation stemming from the All Out incident. Nevertheless, Punk is set to make his return to AEW on June 17th. But with the Forbidden Door pay-per-view the following weekend, will CM Punk be involved with that event?
CM Punk is reportedly being discussed to face KENTA, per Fightful Select. The match is being discussed for Forbidden Door, a collaborative pay-per-view event between AEW and NJPW.
KENTA is currently wrestling for NJPW, but has appeared in various companies as well. He even was signed to WWE and wrestled in NXT for a short time being. Furthermore, KENTA is currently the Defy World Champion and the NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion.
This match makes sense because CM Punk has publicly stated that he stole his finishing move from KENTA, the GTS. Although wrestlers don’t own moves, Punk has admitted to seeing KENTA do it when he was in Pro Wrestling NOAH and stole it. So this would be a true battle of the GTS.
Also, it’s worth noting that these two men have never faced each other before, which is what makes Forbidden Door so special. You get dream matches that you thought would never happen. So if AEW wants to get CM Punk on the card, having him face KENTA would be a dream come true for many.
