The Chicago Bulls Will Be a Playoff Team in 2021-22 Season

Last season, the New York Knicks surprised a lot of people by nabbing the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference. If you’re looking for this year’s candidate to do something similar, look no further than the Chicago Bulls.

The Bulls had one of the better offseasons in the NBA. They brought in point guard Lonzo Ball, who has steadily improved during his time in the league. Last season, he scored 14.6 points per game and shot 37.8% from three-point range, both career-highs. Ball has also developed into an elite perimeter defender. Chicago also signed four-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan to a three-year, $81 million deal. Although the value on this contract isn’t spectacular, DeRozan will still provide versatility to the Bulls’ offense with his midrange game.

Chicago’s last notable offseason move was inking free agent guard Alex Caruso to a four-year, $37 million contract. Caruso has become kind of a meme to most NBA fans, but he is still a valuable bench piece who can elevate Chicago’s second unit with his hustle and defense.

The offseason additions join returning All-Stars in guard Zach LaVine and big man Nikola Vucevic, as well as 2020 first-round pick Patrick Williams. Coby White has reportedly made great progress recovering from shoulder surgery, so having him come off the bench at some point should make the Bulls better. After being unable to move Lauri Markannen, he will return as well.

The Bulls have a very solid, well-rounded team for next season. They have shooting, defense, and enough star power to be a factor in the Eastern Conference. I don’t think they’ll get as high of a seed as last season’s Knicks squad, but a No. 5-6 seed is very much in play. A starting lineup of Ball, LaVine, DeRozan, Williams, Vucevic should definitely make the playoffs.
