In news that should be surprising to absolutely nobody, a study has revealed that Toronto Blue Jays fans pregame more than fans of any other MLB team. This information comes from a 2021 survey conducted by New Jersey Online Gambling. According to their data, 70% of Blue Jays fans have drinks before the game. The Toronto faithful narrowly beat out fans of the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox, and Cincinnati Reds for the top spot. Gotta love the Midwest, man.
The reason I say this shouldn’t be surprising is that Toronto has a reputation for rowdy fans. It’s a hockey town, and Blue Jays fans are just hockey fans thrust into a baseball environment. Have you seen Game 5 of the 2015 ALDS? When Jose Bautista hit his famous go-ahead three-run home run, the entire stadium and camera setup were shaking. I’ve only really seen something like that in European football. There’s something else those fans are pretty well known for if you catch my drift.
An interesting wrinkle in the data is that Blue Jays fans ranked No. 20 in drinks per game. Seems like most of their action happens in the pregame. That’s in contrast to fans of the Chicago White Sox, who ranked No. 3 in pregame and No. 1 in drinks per game. There’s a joke in there somewhere about how this is the fanbase cheering for the team that has Tony La Russa as a manager.
Anyway, that’s your useless statistic of the day. You’re welcome.
