DeMar DeRozan Inking Three-Year, $85 Million Deal with Bulls

Free agent guard DeMar DeRozan is inking a three-year, $85 million deal with the Chicago Bulls, as first reported by Shams Charania of the Athletic.

The Chicago Bulls have had quite the start to the 2021 NBA free agency cycle. After signing both Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso to four-year deals respectively, the Bulls have added another scorer to what is becoming a versatile backcourt. DeRozan averaged 21.6 points per game last season, while tallying 6.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds to boot. With the former Raptor and Spur now in the Windy City, the Bulls organization may be turning their focus towards extending All-Star guard and current Olympian Zach LaVine.

LaVine had this to say on Monday at a press conference in Tokyo regarding his current contract situation with the franchise:

“I just want my respect, that’s the main thing. I outplayed my contract. I’ve been very loyal to Chicago. I like Chicago. I just want my respect. If that’s now or later, it’s something we’ve got to work out internally.”

Despite the 26-year-old’s sentiments, he will be suiting up for Chicago come next season. However, if a contract is not extended this offseason, the Bulls can offer up a new deal, but he will be an unrestricted free agent, according to ESPN. A potential backcourt featuring the former UCLA standout, Ball and DeRozan, is an exciting one to think of and opponents will certainly have their hands full on the defensive end. That is a lengthy and versatile on both ends of the floor and Bulls fans should be excited.

At that same press conference, LaVine did say that he would be keeping tabs on the moves the franchise would make this offseason.

“Free agency is going to play a part [in an extension] with other players and constructing a roster. We’ll have some conversations going forward.”

For now though, Bulls fans can celebrate a promising future with DeRozan, Ball and Caruso in the fold.
