Chelsea Keeper Kepa Leaving
Although all eyes are on the arrival of Timo Werner at Stamford Bridge, there may be someone leaving. Rumors are circulating about Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga leaving by the end of the summer.
Valencia has been linked to wanting to inherit Kepa. They would love to have a two-year loan deal with Chelsea for him.
If that were to happen, then he would replace Jasper Cillessen, who has been linked to a summer exit. However, there seems to be a larger trade at work.
It looks as if Ajax might also get involved. If Kepa moved to Valencia, then Cillessen would go to Ajax. Then Ajax keeper, Andre Onana, would move to Chelsea. But, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have also been linked to wanting Onana. The 24-year-old has should his worth at Ajax, and PSG wants him.
Quite frankly, it doesn’t make sense as to why Chelsea would get rid of Kepa. He came in from Athletico Bilbao for £72 million to replace Thibaut Courtois, who went to Real Madrid.
Kepa is reportedly on good terms with Frank Lampard, so that’s not a problem. He is also the second-highest-paid player on the team at £7.8 million a year. The club could be motivated to save some money so they can pay for the Werner deal. But, with Kepa’s good track record at Chelsea, that doesn’t make much sense.
However, there have been rumors about what Kepa wants. He may want to leave London to get more playing time with the Spanish national team. Especially because he wants to play more in next year’s Euros.
With how well Kepa has been playing at Chelsea, it’s hard to imagine that the club wants to get rid of him. He is only 25 years old and still fits into Lampard’s vision. It would be sad to see him go after all the progress he’s made at Stamford Bridge.
