If you had to take a guess at who leads the NFL in sacks, who would you guess? Well, since you’re reading this post, I kinda gave it away. Still, the point is that you probably didn’t guess Chandler Jones. When you think of the best pass rushers in the world guys like Myles Garrett, Von Miller, Khalil Mack, and the Bosa’s come to mind. It’s time everyone stars putting Chandler Jones in that class because he might be better than all of them.
One player in the NFL has 10 plus sacks over the last 5 years. His name is Chandler Jones. I don’t know why Jones doesn’t get more love. I don’t understand where certain narratives derive from. All I know is Chandler Jones needs more recognition. Jones leads the NFL with 12.5 sacks this year. He’s also doing it with the Arizona Cardinals who have been trailing most of the season creating less pass rushing situations.
Maybe it’s because when most guys get traded away from New England, we forget about them. Trading Chandler Jones is probably the worst decision Bill Belichick ever made. Jones was traded to the Arizona Cardinals for a 2nd round pick and Jonathan Cooper. That pick turned into Cyrus Jones who was cut almost right away. Neither of which are on the Patriots roster. New England traded him because they didn’t want to pay him but Arizona actually locked him up for an $82.5 million contract over 5 years that has proven to be a great value. New England has failed to really replace him in any sort of capacity.
Chandler Jones is everything you want in a pass rusher. 6-foot-5, long, fast, and athletic. His brother is UFC Light Heavyweight champ, Jon Jones for crying out loud. Put Jon Jones coming off the edge at 265 and that’s basically Chandler Jones. Shouldn’t every team want that? Why does nobody talk about him? Jones is a freakish talent. He broke the single-season sack record in my Madden Series (you can watch that from the beginning here). Jones is one of the great modern day pass rushers the NFL has to offer. It’s time to start giving him the respect he deserves.
