Love, 21, commits to the Wildcats after originally committing to transfer to Michigan back in April. The 6’4″ guard has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining. Love’s commitment is a major get for Arizona and coach Tommy Lloyd. The Wildcats are coming off a season in which they dominated the PAC-12 once again but fell in a massive first-round upset to Princeton.
Love is the latest in a number of high-profile transfers to join Arizona in recent years. In this cycle, the Wildcats have added former San Diego State forward Keshad Johnson, as well as former Alabama guard Jaden Bradley.
With Love’s addition, Arizona is expected to be one of the top teams in the Pac-12 next season, yet again. The Wildcats will be looking to build on their success from last season, as they try to make the Final Four for the first time since 2001.
Love spent three seasons as a Tar Heel. Undoubtedly, his one shining moment was draining a deep-range dagger against archrival Duke in the Final Four two seasons ago.
After North Carolina won that game, they fell in the National Championship to Kansas. Following that season, Love led the way for a UNC team that had big aspirations heading into 2023. Love had career highs in field goal percentage and points at North Carolina in 2023, however, the team did not live up to the preseason No. 1 overall ranking that they received.
North Carolina became didn’t even make the NCAA Tournament, becoming the first preseason #1 to not make the Tournament in men’s basketball history.
Arizona will be getting a player who is strong off the first step. He can shoot, as well as get to the rack against any big around the country. Love can easily step into the role as the primary scoring guy for the Wildcats in 2023-24.
