After being released by the Ravens only a few weeks ago, Calais Campbell is back on an NFL roster. The Falcons continue to make a big splash in free agency by signing the veteran defensive lineman to a one-year deal, as first reported by Ian Rapoport.
Atlanta continues to bolster their roster at this free agency with the signing of Campbell. Earlier this offseason, the Falcons re-signed their star offensive lineman Chris Lindstrom and traded for Patriots tight end Jonnu Smith.
Campbell brings in 15 years of leadership to this Falcons team. The Cardinals drafted Campbell 50th overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. Up until now, Campbell’s career has been excellent. He has accumulated six Pro Bowls, one first-team All-Pro (2017), two-time second-team All-Pro (2014, 2016), Walter Payton Man of the Year (2019) and more.
Over the course of his lengthy 15-year NFL career, Campbell has stuffed the stat sheet. He has accumulated 99 sacks, 809 total tackles, with 584 being solo, 16 forced fumbles, and even three interceptions. Campbell has made the postseason five times in his career — three times with the Cardinals and two seasons with the Ravens. Campbell has played a total of almost 230 games across his career as well.
The former Walter Payton Man of the Year and Pro Bowler will instantly make an impact in Atlanta. Atlanta’s defense remained poor once again last season, the Falcons ranked 27th on defense in total yards and 23rd in rush yards allowed. Campbell will add depth to a young Falcon’s line, including Grady Jarrett, David Onyemata and Lorenzo Carter. With Campbell’s leadership and veteran experience, he will make a quick improvement to this young Atlanta Falcons team.
