New England Patriots TE Jonnu Smith has been traded to the Atlanta Falcons
After a brief stop in New England, Patriots they have shipped temporary TE Jonnu Smith off to Atlanta. Smith will join the Falcons in exchange for a 7th round pick, according to Ian Rapoport.
The Falcons have made an interesting move with the Patriots for trading for Smith. But for only trading away a seventh-round pick, it’s like taking candy from a baby at this point. Smith will join fellow star TE Kyle Pitts in Atlanta after an underutilized season with the Patriots. Interesting move by the Falcons here, as with Pitts’s injury concerns, could we see Atlanta trading their former fourth-overall pick?
Smith has been an enticing TE ever since he joined the Titans in the 2017 NFL draft. Tennessee picked the six foot three TE out of FIU with the 100th overall pick in the third round. He would alter join the New England Patriots in 2021 after four years with the Titans.
In his career, Smith has posted almost 2,000 yards in six seasons along with 169 receptions, and 17 touchdowns. Although his career with the Titans was up there, Smith took a statistical tool with the Patriots. His number dropped almost in double in the Patriots offense in two years. He had only around 550 receiving yards, one touchdown, and 55 catches.
With the Falcons and their rebuilding stage, Smith will probably be the number two TE behind Kyle Pitts. But, with the injury concerns in the past of Pitts, there is a very good chance Atlanta trades their star TE and moves Smith up in the depth chart.
