Report: Some Browns players didn’t approve of Baker Mayfield’s comments on Duke Johnson (Ken Blaze/USA TODAY Sports)

The Browns have real expectations for the first time in my lifetime. Predictably, the pressure is already starting to set in. Running Back Duke Johnson requested a trade this offseason because he is buried on the depth chart. Baker Mayfield called out Johnson not too long after.

Now reports are surfacing that some of Baker’s teammates did not like his comments. Multiple teammates reportedly had some strong words for Mayfield privately about the way he handled that presser. NFL Network correspondent Michael Silver had the following:

“As I just stated on @nflnetwork: According to multiple sources, several veteran Browns players approached Baker Mayfield in the locker room after the young QB’s critical comments about RB Duke Johnson to register their displeasure, and they hashed out their differences.”

“I also reported that the transition to new OC Todd Monken has not gone as smoothly as planned, resulting in HC Freddie Kitchens playing a greater role in spearheading the offense than originally intended. We’ll keep an eye on this as the season approaches.”

To be honest, I’m not sure what the best way to answer questions about Duke Johnson is. Probably something along the lines of “that’s not for me to talk about, you will have to ask Duke how he feels”. What I do know is feeding the media information like this never ends well.

The more concerning part of the report is the failed relationship with Todd Monken. What does this quote even mean? Does he not like the guy or is Monken just not smart? What’s the deal? I don’t know what’s going on. All I know is if this is true, the Browns could turn into a disaster fast. The Browns are going to be fun to watch whether they suck or are awesome.
