Bradley Beal Has Agreed to a $251 Million Deal to Stay in Washington
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, All-star guard Bradley Beal has agreed to a five-year, $251 million maximum contract with the Washington Wizards.
This deal comes after Beal declined his $36.4 million player option for the 2022-2023 season. There was some initial discussion surrounding the future of the All-Star guard, but it quickly became evident that his future is going to be in Washington.
Beal is one of three players to get a supermax deal this offseason, as Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker and Denver Nuggets Center Nikola Jokic have also received that honor.
Beal has played all ten of his NBA seasons in Washington, and this five-year deal will result in him being a Wizard for 15 years in total if Beal plays through the contract. At 29, this deal will lock Beal in Washington for the remainder of his prime.
Last season, Beal missed a significant amount of time with a wrist injury. However, he was productive when he was on the court. In 40 games, Beal averaged 23.2 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.7 rebounds.
Prior to that, Beal made the All-Star game in 2018, 2019, and 2021. From an awards standpoint, 2018 was his best year, as he made the All-NBA Third Team.
Beal and the Wizards have been unable to make it past the first round of the playoffs since 2017. With their franchise centerpiece under contract for the foreseeable future, the Wizards will look to change that. Alongside Beal, the Wizards will field a lineup including Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma. They also recently made a trade with the Nuggets, where they received Monte Morris and Will Barton for Ish Smith and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
