Devin Booker Receives $214 Million Supermax Contract Extension
According to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania, Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns are finalizing a four-year, $214 million supermax contract extension. In addition, Booker will be the cover athlete for NBA 2k23.
Booker played an integral role for the Phoenix Suns during their 64-18 campaign last year. Despite losing in the Western Conference Semifinals last year, the Suns had a successful season. As Phoenix’s No. 1 scoring option, he averaged 26.8 points, 4.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game. This performance resulted in Booker making an All-Star game for the third year in a row.
Booker was drafted by Phoenix with the 13th pick in the 2015 NBA draft. Since being drafted, Booker has spent his entire career with the Suns. Booker’s current deal does not end until the 2023-24 season is over. As a result, this four-year deal will keep him in Phoenix until the 2027-28 season is over.
Devin Booker is one of the three players this offseason to sign a supermax deal. Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic are the other two.
This news comes alongside being named the NBA 2K23 cover athlete. However, no other information is available at this time.
With Booker under contract, all eyes turn toward Deandre Ayton. The Suns’ big man is a restricted free agent and his future is in question. If the Suns would like to keep their core from last season intact, they will have to dish out another max contract for Ayton. If not, they may be able to get some assets in a potential sign and trade.
The Suns are also front and center in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes. Durant recently requested a trade from Brooklyn and the Suns were one of the teams that he was interested in joining.
