Brad Lambert 2022 NHL Draft Profile

As hockey is being played globally, we focus on the future ahead. The 2022 NHL Draft can’t come soon enough for the teams with no hope for the rest of the NHL season. In this Brad Lambert draft profile we look at the potential future for a fantastic Finnish prospect for the upcoming draft.

After a shortened World Juniors Tournament and a disappointing start to his Liiga season, top prospect Brad Lambert terminated his contract with JYP Jyvaskyla. Lambert is re-joining the Lahden Pelicans, the system he’s spent time with during his 14 and 15-year-old seasons. A slow start hurts, but can Brad Lambert rebound back before the NHL Draft?

Lambert is a great player with excellent game tools that separate him from the rest of the draft class. He drives the offensive plays and has shown to be a difference-maker at times. He is a great transition player as he possesses elite skating and maneuverability when he’s on the ice. His hands keep up with his skating as he has excellent puck skills.

His time at the world juniors has shown scouts what they wanted to see from a player his type. He proved his ability to be a difference-maker against his peers in that time, a reason why so many people had Lambert high on their list. Even though he only played 2 games at the World Juniors, he put up 5 points.

Lambert’s Slow Start is a Cause for Concern

With high hopes, Lambert entered the Liiga season only to put up 6 points in 24 games.

Not producing points is a prominent area of concern, but there are reasons for it. The expectation for Lambert is too high for him, and he can’t get comfortable with the roles he’s been in. For example, he constantly moves throughout the lines during a game. He may start in the top-six, but he’s been regulated to bottom-six by the end of the game. One cannot gain that chemistry with their linemates when constantly changing roles. If a young player can’t get comfortable, how can anyone assume that he will be able to take that expected, leading role in a men’s league?

Lambert is an exceptionally talented player, but there are certainly faults to the young prospect. His confidence level is not there, leading him to pass on opportunities to push the puck or create scoring chances. His problems have definitely blown up due to his teammates putting up points, but nevertheless, Lambert is a talented player who has struggled to score points.

Time to Put Up or Shut Up

The biggest take away from right now is that he’s playing pro as a teenager, something few players can actually do at his age. He has the skills, but putting it out there consistently is the next step for Lambert. He’s one of the best prospects the Finns have had in years, and that’s saying something with the talent that’s come from there in recent years.

A stable role and confidence are precisely what Lambert needs to finish his Liiga season and moving within Liiga to help development isn’t uncommon. Many prospects from Finland use this strategy, such as Rangers’ prospect Aatu Raty. He’s moved himself to the top of prospect lists after changing teams and putting up points at a gaudy rate. Opportunity matters, and a change of scenery could be all that’s needed for a player to excel.

Finding his footing with the Pelicans could be the difference for Brad Lambert. He has the tools and ability to be great, but can he answer the questions scouts have asked since he started his season in a slump?
