Blame Ryan Grigson For Andrew Luck’s Short Career

Andrew Luck should have been a Hall of Famer. Instead, he retired way too soon. Luck recently called it quits after one too many injuries started to pile up. While the NFL community is shocked and mad, there’s only one real person to blame for Luck leaving the game too soon. That man is Ryan Grigson, or the worst general manager the NFL has ever seen.

Ryan Grigson was named the Colts gm the same year Andrew Luck was drafted (2012). The two came into the league together. Grigson essentially killed Luck’s career. He couldn’t have been a worse general manager. Grigson served as the Colts general manager from 2012-2016. From 2012-2015, Grigson only drafted 3 offensive lineman before the 7th round. Those three guys included Hugh Thornton, Jack Mewhort, and Khalil Holmes. All of those guys suck. Grigson let this offensive line go to shit and Luck started to crumble.

During Luck’s first three years in the NFL, he carried a bad roster to three straight 11-5 seasons. That was also with joke of a head coach Chuck Pagano. Who the hell thought Pagano was capable? Oh, yeah, Grigson did. Luck was actually a durable guy. He never missed a start his first 3 years in the NFL. The 2015 offensive line was so bad that Joe Reitz was a starter. He was a college basketball player who was signed as a tight end and converted to the line. Yeah, this line was a joke. Luck lasted as long as he could. Luck was pressured on at least 36 percent of his drop backs every year in the Grigson era. In 2015 and 2016 when the hits started to take a toll, those pressure rates jumped past 40 percent.

Grigson didn’t just build an egregious offensive line, he didn’t do ANYTHING right. This is a man who gave up a first round pick for Trent Richardson. Grigson gave the bank to Art Jones who was a total bust. Let’s check out Grigson’s draft history. Not including the 2012 years because you can’t miss once you pick Andrew Luck. Here’s what he brought to the table.

2013:

  • Defensive end Björn Werner (24th overall)
  • Guard Hugh Thornton (86th overall)
  • Center Khaled Holmes (121st overall)
  • Defensive tackle Montori Hughes (139th overall)
  • Safety John Boyett (192nd overall)
  • Running back Kerwynn Williams (230th overall)
  • Tight end Justice Cunningham (254th overall)

Every player on that list ^ is a bust. A 5-year-old could have picked random names out of a hat and did a better job.

2014:

  • Guard Jack Mewhort (59th overall)
  • Wide receiver Donte Moncrief (90th overall)
  • Defensive end Jonathan Newsome (155th overall)
  • Linebacker Andrew Jackson (203rd overall)
  • Guard Ulrick John (232nd overall)

No first round pick because of the awful Trent Richardson trade. Donte Moncrief turned into an okay player. The rest of that list is garbage.

2015:

  • Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett (29th overall)
  • Cornerback D’Joun Smith (65th overall)
  • Defensive end Henry Anderson (93rd overall)
  • Safety Clayton Geathers (109th overall)
  • Defensive tackle David Parry (151st overall)
  • Running back Josh Robinson (205th overall)
  • Linebacker Amarlo Herrera (207th overall)
  • Offensive tackle Denzelle Good (255th overall)

Phillip Dorsett in the first round is laughable. It just goes to show how stupid Ryan Grigson is. Seriously, you can’t make up how bad this is. His final draft in 2016 he did land Ryan Kelly who worked out. The rest of the list is no longer on the roster. Yeah…

NFL fans have every right to be mad about not getting to see Andrew Luck anymore. Just don’t be mad at Andrew Luck. Blame the guy who ran the Colts into the ground, Ryan Grigson.
