Taco Charlton
Taco Charlton says he hasn’t done anything in the NFL yet. Is Charlton an X-Factor for Dallas this season? Taco is having a strong preseason in 2019 for far (Matthew Emmons/USA TODAY Sports)

Is Taco Charlton a bust? If you were to ask him right now, he might even call himself that. Dallas picked Charlton in the first round out of the University of Michigan in 2017. So far, he hasn’t done much. Charlton isn’t even trying to deny it.

The former Michigan product is off to a hot start to the 2019 preseason. In 19 snaps during the most recent preseason game, Charlton recorded three tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery. Charlton is on the right path but he knows he hasn’t done anything yet.

“I ain’t done [expletive],” Charlton said. “I ain’t done nothing. I still have a lot of work to do, a lot of stuff to prove. This ain’t nothing to me but lace them up. Let’s play the next game.”

Taco is the real X-Factor on this defense. DeMarcus Lawrence is a monster pass rusher. Can you imagine if Charlton turns the corner and becomes a stud? This roster is loaded. Jaylon Smith, Leighton Vander Esch, Byron Jones, Xavier Woods… WOW. I’m rooting for Taco. Charlton has started just 7 of his first 27 career games. He has 4 sacks and one forced fumble during that span.

Speaking of Taco, I just traded for him in my Madden series. I almost wonder if he would be better in a 3-4 standing up. He is a bigger guy but it may be worth looking into. Charlton has been a 4-3 defensive end in the NFL and college. If you haven’t checked out my Jets Madden 20 series, I suggest that you do. I just played my Week 1 game against the Bills.
