Former Giants, Raiders, and Packers linebacker Blake Martinez has been cashing in on something unexpected. It’s not gambling or investing in stocks, but it’s something Martinez has done since he was a kid: collecting Pokémon cards and reselling them.
The former fourth-round pick is done with ripping out footballs and covering opponents, he rather be ripping Pokémon packs. Martinez is no rookie to the world of Pokémon. He started collecting these illustrious cards when he was a kid and boy has his love for them paid off, literally.
Blake Martinez has accumulated over $5 million in only seven months selling these cards. He sells them through his own company called Blake’s Breaks.
“I think there’s more to my success than (my name),” Martinez said, via theScore. “I used to be like the quarterback of the defense; I was calling plays. When I started this business, it felt like running a team again.”
Blake Martinez retired from the NFL only a month after from signing with the Las Vegas Raiders. He was only 28 when he retired from the game. Martinez finished his career with a total of 443 solo tackles, 13 sacks, four forced fumbles and four interceptions. But even with retirement from the NFL, Martinez is still facing injures, but it’s not from big hits.
“Every single day when I wake up, my shoulder doesn’t hurt and my back doesn’t hurt anymore,” Martinez said, via theScore. “When all that hurts are my fingers from opening, like, 1,000 packs of cards per day, I think, ‘I’m going to keep doing this.'”
