Christian Watson Likely Done for the Season with Torn ACL

The Packers dropped a close game to the Chicago Bears in the last week of the season. Now, Green Bay is 11-6 which will make them the seventh seed in the NFC. Unfortunately, the team received some bad injury news ahead of their Wild Card matchup with the Eagles. Wide receiver Christian Watson left late in the week 18 game and did not return. Now, it is believed Watson will be out with a torn ACL.

This is a big blow to the Packers wide receiver room. Watson was one of the Packers’ big-play wide receivers and helped round out a good but not great wide-receiving core. The former second-round pick was having a decent third year in the NFL. He has not blossomed into the game-changer that he was drafted to be.

However, Christian Watson had a nice year with 29 receptions, 620 yards, and two touchdowns. Also, Watson averaged 21.4 yards per reception which would put him among the highest players in the league at that stat. The Packers will have to figure out how to get the most out of their offense in the playoffs while being down a main wide receiver.

Packers Offense Heading Into Playoffs

Green Bay has one of the best offenses in the league as they are fifth in the league in total yards. Their rushing attack is a big reason for that as they were fifth in total rushing yards in the regular season. The Packers’ offseason addition of Josh Jacobs was massive for improving their offense as the older running back showed he can still carry an offense.

On the other hand, the Packers’ passing attack is effective but not elite by any means. Green Bay will rely heavily on wide receivers Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks to step up and perform in the playoffs. One of these young playmakers will have to make up for the depleted wide receiver room if the Packers want to make a run in the playoffs. Finally, even though Christian Watson is out he will be on the sideline supporting his teammates as they try to pull off an upset against the Eagles on Sunday.
