Rapper and 2022 XXL Freshman Big Scarr Dead At 2022

The Memphis style rapper Big Scarr has reportedly passed away, according to a tweet from DJ Akademiks late Thursday night.

His cause of death is not clear at the moment as the details have not been made public. This is a tragic loss especially because he was so young. The 22-year-old rapper made headlines after being tabbed as an up-and-coming rapper in this year’s XXL Freshman list and already had many struggles in his life.

Just Getting Started

Big Scarr was just starting a burgeoning rap career. His viral series SoIcyBoyz, with Pooh Shiesty, Foogiano and Tay Kieth, was only continuing his momentum from solo freestyles that got him signed.

Speaking of, Big Scarr signed to 1017/Atlanta Records run by Gucci Mane just six months after debuting on the scene. The two were first introduced through a mutual connection in Pooh Shiesty, Big Scarr’s cousin. Big Scarr has shown his appreciation for Gucci Mane as he claims he saved the two rappers from the Memphis life.

He had just one studio album released titled Big Grim Reaper in 2021 and a deluxe later in 2022. This was not all as he was set to tour with Key Glock another prominent Memphis rapper. He was already connecting and reaching the top of the ranks at such a young age.

Who Is Big Scarr?

Big Scarr is most known for his Icy Boys series that he had with his fellow Memphis rapper and cousin, Pooh Shiesty. However, he made a name for himself as one of the newest and freshest up-and-coming rappers.

Big Scarr originally got his name in an accident when he was 16 — a car crash that sent Big Scarr out of the vehicle leaving him with many injuries. He had to go to the hospital and was left with scars covering his face, thus inspiring his name, Big Scarr. The accident and his focus to move with that was also just a part of who he was.

He made it clear that any time he rapped, it was him we were listening to. His life. His struggles. His words. The realness in his music was what was appreciated by fans. Not only that, but his genuine nature is also what other rappers and collaborators loved about him. The Memphis community loses another talented rapper that was taken far too soon.

RIP Big Scarr.
