SZA is back with her sophomore album SOS, which includes features such as Don Toliver and, once again, Travis Scott. This 23-track album is more than enough to fulfill her four-year hiatus from her debut album Ctrl, however, this album is nothing like her last.
Ctrl was more one-laned in the sense it was mainly just R&B. SZA decided she would dip her toe in the gallery of genres in this new album which left a beautiful, unpolished, multipurpose work of art. In this album, she is either rapping or singing with her amazing vocals to R&B, pop-punk, trap instrumentals or more.
It truly is refreshing to see another versatile artist step out of their comfort zone and provide something experimental while providing her better known R&B style. This is the first priority in listening to the new music this week with the song such as “Open Arms” ft. Travis Scott providing another example of the amazing duo from their previous collaboration “Love Galore”.
A Boogie also dropped the album Me vs. Myself which contains 22 songs with features such as:
However, his case is different than SZA’s as this is just too much material, and here’s why.
SZA had very few songs over the period of her four-year break up to the release of SOS. Conversely, A Boogie dropped Artist 2.0 and B4 AVA in back-to-back years making the 22-track the third in three years less exciting to listen to. The album is cramped which leads to some of the very good songs getting overshadowed by the mediocre fluff.
However, that does not mean the album is completely trash. Songs such as, “Water (Drowning Pt. 2)” with Kodak Black pairing the great combo again from their original “Drowning,” “Bounce Back,” and “Come Here” provide a nice vary in tempo. Me vs. Myself had the potential to be an amazing album, but it was the repeating fluff that made the album boring.
Mount Westmore is a collective group of rap stars consisting of Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Too Short and E-40. These legends paired up to release the group’s 16-track debut album called Snoop Cube 40 $hort.
However, this group looks to expand their discography even more as Ice Cube told eurweb, “it’s a great thing to show hip hop can still get together, form a group, and make multiple albums together.” Fans of these west coast rap architects should be excited for what the future holds for this group.
Polo G is among some of the big names dropping as well as he releases his new single “My All.” This guitar and piano instrumental is matched with Polo’s delivery of a breakup. If one has recently experienced a breakup, this song will be perfect.
Lil Tecca released another single in 2022 called “Blessing” which consist of a catchy looped beat. This is hinting at a potential release of another album with these rollouts of songs he has put out.
This week was a big week for music as SZA and A Boogie both dropped 20-plus song albums along with singles from Polo G and Lil Tecca. Who’s getting the first listen?
