The UFC is returning to London for UFC Fight Night 208 on Saturday, July 23. For this trip, the UFC assembled a stacked card from top to bottom. This means there are a handful of fights on the prelims that look to entertain. Here are a couple of fights on the UFC Fight Night 208 prelims that you can’t miss.
Muhammed Mokaev will face Charles Johnson in the fourth fight of the night. This should be a great fight. In my opinion, Mokaev is the best prospect in the flyweight division. With that in mind, this fight is very important for the future of his career. Thus far, Mokaev is 7-0 in professional MMA, and he has an amateur record of 23-0. In his only UFC fight, he landed a flying knee before ending the fight with a guillotine choke. Across the cage, Johnson will be making his UFC debut. Currently, he is 11-2 in MMA On the regional scene, Johnson has shown solid boxing and has proven to be UFC caliber. While this fight is on the feet we will see solid striking exchanges and if Mokeav gets it to the ground he will throw ground and pound while chasing submissions. At a minimum, we will get to see if the hype for Mokaev is legitimate, but we may have a fight of the night candidate on our hands.
At one point in time, Mason Jones was one of the hottest prospects outside the UFC. Jones is from Wales. As a result, a lot of his pre-UFC fights took place in Cage Warriors, an English MMA organization. He won nine fights in the promotion. Jones was the Cage Warriors lightweight and welterweight champion, and he won both fights with a knockout in round one. Since joining the UFC, he has gone 1-1 with one no contest. However, his fights against David Onama and Mike Davis were both three-round battles. Stylistically, Jones has a fan favorite style as he moves forward while throwing strikes, and he is more than willing to eat a strike from his opponent. His opponent, L’udovit Klein, will definitely entertain that style of fight. In addition, Klein has a beautiful head kick that he throws frequently. Overall, this fight seems poised to be a fan favorite scrap.
Once again, we have another prospect to watch on the UFC Fight Night 208 prelims. This time it is Nathaniel “The Prospect” Wood. Wood was the Cage Warriors bantamweight champion who got off to a hot start in the UFC, winning his first three fights in the promotion. After that, he went 1-2 bringing his UFC record to 4-2. However, after his last loss at UFC 254 in 2020, he decided to move up to featherweight. UFC veteran Charles Rosa will welcome him to the division. Rosa is 5-7 in the UFC, but his losses have come to elite competition. Frankly, I do not think this fight will be as entertaining as the other fights that I have spoken about. Instead, I am interested to see how Wood will adapt to the featherweight division, making this an intriguing fight to watch.
