Ben Johnson has signed with the Chicago Bears as the new head coach. After the Raiders and the Jaguars tried to hire him, the most coveted head coaching candidate this cycle heads to Chicago. This was first reported by Adam Schefter on Twitter/X:
The Ben Johnson sweepstakes are finally over. Ben Johnson has made the best decision for himself as now a first-time head coach. He chose to work with a generational talent in Caleb Williams in Chicago than the Raiders with no QB and Jaguars who do have Trevor Lawrence. The main issue that Ben Johnson will have to fix in Chicago is the lack of OL or DL on the team. Caleb Williams was the most sacked QB this year in the NFL with 68 sacks. Vastly different than working with the Lions elite OL where Jared Goff was sacked only 33 times.
Ben Johnson is already working on filling out his staff. He’s rumored to hire Dennis Allen as his defensive coordinator. This was also reported by Adam Schefter on Twitter/X:
If Chicago can at least address their OL, Johnson will bring innovative plays and creative playcalling to the Bears. The Bears do have their fair share of weapons at their disposal with Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, and D’Andre Swift with, of course, Caleb Williams. That has to be the main reason Johnson went to Chicago. While one must wonder what working with clueless Ryan Poles might look like, he might not last long if the OL continues to be subpar. It’s a new beginning in Chicago Bears football. First a generational talent in Caleb Williams and now, hopefully, a head coach to finally bring back glory to Da Bears.
