Bayern Manager Tuchel Unmoved By Fans’ Desire For Him To Stay

Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel is unmoved by a petition by Bayern fans attempting to get the German manager to stay at the club. The petition has received over 14,000 signatures since it was created on Tuesday.

Tuchel and Bayern agreed to a parting of ways at the end of the season after a difficult Bundesliga campaign that saw a high-flying Bayer Leverkusen side win the title with five games to spare, the first time Bayern has not won the league in 12 years.

However, the tide has turned recently for Bayern. Despite its failure in the league, Bayern reached the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League after knocking Arsenal out in the quarterfinals.

On top of this, Bayern fans are unhappy with Tuchel’s potential replacement Ralf Ragnick, the current manager of the Austrian National Team. Ragnick was reportedly contacted by Bayern earlier this week, and the fans do not believe the former Manchester United and RB Leipzig manager would be a step up from Tuchel.

“With all due respect to candidates like [Unai] Emery or Rangnick, these coaches can’t hold a candle to ‘Juppel,’ the petition entitled “We want Juppel [Tuchel] and not Rangnick!” said. “Considering that the ‘Finale Dahoam’ [the Allianz Arena’s 2025 hosting of the Champions League final] will take place next season, Bayern Munich should actually be glad to have such an outstanding Champions League coach like TT [Tuchel].”

Despite the fans’ desire for him to return next season, Tuchel appears unlikely to reverse his decision just as Barcelona manager Xavi did on Thursday. Instead, he appeared unmoved by the petition in a press conference on Friday ahead of Bayern’s Bundesliga matchup with Eintracht Frankfurt.

“It isn’t allowed to be a priority. In the next 11 days it’s only about football, nothing else,” Tuchel said. “Whether it’s pleasant or unpleasant, I don’t allow myself to be influenced by it. Tomorrow we have a test and either we are distracted or we find solutions. Put on earplugs or headphones and study for the test. That is my task.”

Bayern is expected to make a decision involving its next manager within the next week.
