The Avalanche Make The Most Sense For Bo Horvat

It feels like only a matter of time before Bo Horvat is traded. Horvat is an impending free agent the the Canucks captain is on a heater at the perfect. Horvat has scored 22 goals in 32 games played and he’s now priced himself out of Vancouver. A trade is very much on the horizon.

The other day, Sportsnet put out an article details possible landing spots for Horvat. I couldn’t help wonder why the most obvious landing spot wasn’t listed. The Colorado Avalanche make way too much sense here to not get a deal done.

It’s also not a secret that Vancouver wants defense help in return for Horvat. Would Colorado be willing to include Bowen Byram considering the injury history? If the Canucks want help right away, Samuel Girard might be a nice place to start. Trading Girard is something I’m sure Joe Sakic would be willing to oblige if it means finding a way to replace Nazem Kadri.

Shouldn’t that be the goal for the Avalanche as they gear up to try to defend their Stanley Cup? Deep down inside that building they know the truth. They know they haven’t replaced everything that Kadri gives them. Horvat might not be as nasty but he’s a genuine championship caliber second line centerman. Something Colorado doesn’t currently have. Yes, it has everything to do with Alex Newhook not being ready to answer the bell.

JT Compher isn’t the answer. Neither is Newhook. The latter might figure it out eventually but it sure as hell isn’t going to happen this year. In a perfect world, Colorado extends Horvat but regardless, the issue remains the same. If they do not properly replace Nazem Kadri, they will not win the Stanley Cup this year. You know it, I know it, and they know it.

Colorado should be a heavy favorite for Horvat and I’d frankly be surprised to see him end up anywhere else. If the season ended today, Colorado would be a wildcard team. They know they’re not good enough right now and this is the best path to fixing the Kadri problem.
