Teams Don’t Seem To Understand The Importance Of Jae Crowder
Jae Crowder hasn’t played a game so far this season and it feels like the Suns are essentially holding him hostage. Except… It’s not even Phoenix’s fault. Apparently, the Suns have been unable to find a trade partner for Crowder because nobody wants him. Don’t ask me why.
It turns out, Crowder wants a contract extension with whatever team that trades for him. That notion has sort of killed trade talks.
“He said he’s not playing unless he gets a contract extension that he wants,” the general manager said, according to Heavy Sports. “I think a lot of teams are turned off by that in and of itself. Like, ‘What? You don’t want to play for one of the best teams in the NBA and prove that you’re worth it so you can get a contract next year? Like, you’re not that good, bro.’”
“It’s a weird dynamic,” the general manager said. “It’s one thing if Kevin Durant’s holding out because he’s not getting paid enough, but Jae Crowder? Seriously?
“I like him a lot, but I don’t think he’s helping himself here.”
Here is my question? Why can’t Jae Crowder get paid? Did you know Crowder was a +121 in the playoffs for the Suns last year? On the overall season, Crowder was 33rd in the entire league with a +4.5 RPM and providing 10.80 RPM Wins. Crowder does the dirty work that not a lot of players are willing to do. Yes, he’s going to miss a couple of three’s. Guess what? My guy goes to war and you want him on your side when the games count. That’s what I know.
Why won’t someone sign Crowder to an extension? His cap hit is a shade over $10 million this year. As if that’s some astronomical number in today’s game? As if everybody isn’t over the cap anyway and you couldn’t move off it whenever you wanted? This isn’t that hard. Go trade for Jae Crowder. Can the Celtics move off glass man Danilo Gallinari for Crowder? Asking for myself.
