After announcing that he would be leaving ESPN in June, Ariel Helwani left his fans wondering what was next. Well, now we know. Helwani announced that he will be starting his own podcast come August.
The title of the podcast will be “MMA Hour 2”, and it will feature MMA topics from around the sport. This podcast will be in collaboration with SB Nation and Vox Media. He also plans on releasing a podcast on his personal YouTube channel, where he will talk to guests outside of the sport. Helwani has been known solely as an MMA analyst for the last decade or so, and I think it will be really cool to see who he is behind the scenes. It will be a nice change of pace to see Helwani talking to athletes from other sports, celebrities, chefs, and whoever else he has on.
What else could Ariel Helwani be doing in the near future? I obviously cannot say for sure, but I have a few things I would love to see him do. Firstly, I would love to see him call a UFC event. I think he, Joe Rogan, Daniel Cormier, and Jon Anik would have great chemistry and make the event even more entertaining. I just think he would bring an added bit of understanding and knowledge to the already stacked commentary team of the UFC.
I think I speak for all MMA fans when I say that I am extremely excited about the new podcast coming in August. The MMA Hour was one of my favorite MMA podcasts when it was hosted by Ariel, and I could not be more excited about the return. Whether he is doing a podcast with Daniel Cormier or breaking down fights, the dude rarely misses. Most people only know him as the MMA guy from Twitter or TV, but I think we will get a closer look into Helwani’s life outside of the UFC with the launch of the new podcast.
