Are We Sure The Falcons Still Don’t Suck Even After Adding Kirk Cousins?

Am I the only one that’s skeptical about the Falcons? A team that has gone 7-10 in three consecutive seasons is now supposed to take the league by storm. All because they landed Kirk Cousins…

I’m not buying it and nor should you. The Falcons’ win total entering the 2024-25 NFL Season is 9.5 and they’re overwhelming favorites to win the NFC South. Sorry, not sorry, but this team might suck and I can’t believe nobody is acknowledging the nightmare scenario out there that exists.

The list of quarterbacks who go to a second team and thrive is like non-existent. The list is like Peyton Manning with the Broncos and then the list ends. Football is a young man’s sport and teams have gotten burnt more often than not going this route. There is no better example than the Broncos who thought Russell Wilson was going to prove to be their savior. How did that turn out?

The Falcons are now asking Cousins to be their savior. Well, until they have decided Michael Penix has sat long enough for it to be his turn. This entire situation is not only dysfunctional, but it makes ZERO sense. What version of Cousins are the Falcons even getting? A soon-to-be 36-year-old Cousins coming off an Achilles with Drake London as his number one instead of Justin Jefferson.

Who the hell thinks this is going to work? You’re never one player away but counting on a declining Cousins coming off a major injury feels like a huge risk I’m not willing to take. Are we sure it was all Arthur Smith’s fault? Are we sure this team is even good? The guy running the team apparently thinks Bill Belichick wasn’t in the top 3 candidates for the head coaching job and this leaked draft video perfectly epitomizes how dumb Fontenot really is.

What’s worse is this defense hasn’t improved. All of the money was spent on Cousins and the first round pick spent on a quarterback who sucks and preferably won’t play for years. Grady Jarrett isn’t the same player he used to be. Where are the sacks coming from? One injury to Jessie Bates and this team feels literally screwed.

Except last year, I actually thought Ryan Nielsen did a really good job. For as bad talent wise as this Falcons defense is, Atlanta ranked 3rd in the NFL in third down percentage limited opponents to a 33.77% conversion rate. The Falcons also ranked 4th in red zone defense allowing a touchdown 45.28% of the time. Nielson’s scheme did a really good job keeping everything in front of them and forcing teams to kick.

Jimmy Lake is the new DC. The same coach who needed to be fired so that Kalen DeBoer could actually turn the program around. The scheme is going to be much different and he’s going try to create more pressure on the quarterback. Except he doesn’t have any rushers capable of doing so. Again… who is getting sacks for this team? Atlanta will only have themselves to blame for that after passing on premium pass rushers in the draft in back-to-back-to-back years.

Fantasy Football: Falcons Sign Kirk Cousins

Count me out on anything Falcons related. If anything, I’ll bet them to miss the playoffs and under on the win total. This team is a hot mess and it feels almost impossible to actually buy into the nonsensical hype.
