Are The Seahawks Even Good?

Are the Seahawks even good? While Seattle might be the number one seed in the NFC, they are probably VERY overrated. (Elaine Thompson/Associated Press)

The Seattle Seahawks are currently the number one seed in the NFC. My question is are they even good? Okay, maybe that’s an elementary question, but in this case, it’s a good one. The NFC is loaded and Seattle sits atop of the Conference standings. Is Seattle really in the same class as teams like San Francisco, New Orleans, Green Bay, and even Minnesota?

If we go by wins and losses, yes, the Seahawks are a good team. However, point differential tells a much different story. The Seahawks have an 11-3 record and have a +26 point differential. That’s absurd. What the Seahawks are is a Russell Wilson story. They’re less talented than everyone, Wilson just makes enough plays to give them the one possession win. That’s what Seattle is in reality.

Let’s compare that point differential to some of the rest of the teams in the NFL. San Francisco sits at +161 and they have the exact same record. Minnesota is +119. Dallas is 7-7 and +90 on the season. Tampa Bay is +18 which is 6 less than Seattle. Basically the difference between winning the coin toss when the Bucs lost to Seattle in overtime when they played.

A +26 point differential is concerning for a team that is a number one seed in the NFC. They are relying on Russell Wilson to carry them every week. The Seahawks have ONE other Pro Bowler on the roster, Bobby Wagner. Seattle isn’t a bad team per se. They have some pieces. Jadeveon Clowney, DK Metcalf, Shaquill Griffin, and Chris Carson are nice. They also aren’t nearly as talented as their record indicates.

If you want to point to a determining factor for who should be the NFL MVP, look no further than Seattle’s point differential. Russell Wilson has a 109 quarterback rating to go with a 67.4 completion percentage and 28-5 TD to INT ratio. He’s being Super Man and Seattle is outscoring teams by 26 points on the entire season. Without Russell Wilson, this is a last place team. Now that VALUABLE.
