Antonio Gibson Will Be A Fantasy Football Superstar In 2021

Washington Football Team running back Antonio Gibson was quietly a very productive player in 2020. The rookie logged 795 rushing yards last season on just 170 rush attempts with 11 touchdowns. He also added 247 receiving yards. By the end of the season, Gibson was a top 15 fantasy running back. This season, however, Gibson will ascend as one of the league’s top running backs and fantasy football players overall. His situation on a quickly improving Washington team combined with his talents as both a runner and pass catcher will lead him to an amazing 2021 fantasy football season.

Gibson was not a highly coveted fantasy rookie entering last season due to him playing for the disastrous Washington Football Team. However, led by Ron Rivera, Washington greatly exceeded expectations and won the NFC East. The Football Team has one of the best defenses in the league and did a good job in the offseason improving the offense. Washington signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to be their starting quarterback and added speedy receiver Curtis Samuel.

This improved situation will do wonders for Gibson this season, the focal point of Washington’s offense. This team will likely compete in most games, leading for more touches for Gibson in the ground game. Even though he was a solid fantasy running back last year, Gibson only had more than 16 carries in a game three times. Now in his second season in the NFL, Gibson figures to receive the most amount of bell cow work that he will receive in his career. Additionally, Ron Rivera is the perfect coach for a player with Gibson’s skillset. In Carolina, Rivera helped transcend Christian McCaffrey to a superstar by feeding him tons of volume in both the run game and the pass game. Rivera knows how to win games, and will likely look to Gibson’s youth to generate offense this fall.

Not only does Gibson’s situation in Washington set him up perfectly for fantasy success, but he also is an incredibly talented player. Anyone who watched Washington’s game versus Dallas on Thanksgiving should know that Gibson is a special player. He is a very shifty athlete who weaves in between tackles and is a legitimate receiving threat. Last season, Gibson only caught 36 passes. With a quarterback like Fitzpatrick, who threw to his running backs plenty in Miami, I expect Gibson to almost double that number.

Antonio Gibson will be a fantasy superstar in 2021. It is written in the stars. Yet, he’s somehow projected as a late second round pick. Anyone who selects him within the 12-16 range is picking up potentially the top fantasy performer this season. I will even consider Gibson in the first rounds of my drafts, depending on the number I pick at. Make sure to queue up Antonio Gibson in your Fantasy Football drafts this year.
