Alec Bohm ‘Hates’ Philadelphia, Should The Phillies Trade Him

Does anybody miss Ben Simmons right now in Philadelphia? Well, a lot fewer Philadelphia fans are complaining about him now as a new young disgruntled star has now taken their attention. Apparently, Alec Bohm hates Philadelphia too!

Here, I’ll let Bohm tell you so himself:

Don’t worry, you don’t even have to be an expert lip reader to figure it out. Bohm even admitted that he absolutely said those words. The real question is, what the hell are the actual Phillies going to do about it? It’s a real question because if you know Dave Dombrowski like I think I do, he’s not exactly a conservative guy when it comes to making deals.

Dombrowski isn’t exactly patient for young players either. If trading Spencer Howard didn’t clue you on that detail, I don’t know what will. Dombrowski has and will continue pulling the plug on young players that need more time to develop.

Bohm, 25, is almost kind of past that point now but still qualifies as a young player in terms of service time. Bohm lit the world on fire in a short sample size as a rookie in 2020. The following year, Bohm took a major step backward and even started losing playing time. This year, Bohm was on the roster but his seat was warm, to say the least. This quote likely won’t just go away.

So what exactly do you do if you’re the Phillies? Isn’t Bohm a bit of a distraction at this point? Especially considering the fact that another young player, Bryson Stott, appears to have stolen his job? Is there coming back from this? Not everyone is built to thrive in the city of Philadelphia.

Dombrowski doesn’t like to just punt on young assets but he sure as hell is willing to give them up for something that can help him win now. If Stott proves to be a capable big leaguer, Bohm could certainly find his way off this roster.

It will be curious to see Bohm’s trajectory for the rest of the season. I just think it should be noted he’s officially on trade watch. With Dombrowski pulling the strings in Philadelphia, it’s impossible to disregard the odds of a Bohm trade happening and soon.
