AEW Rampage Results & Review (7/1/22): New Challenger For AEW World Title Determined

AEW Rampage was a great show. Although it is only an hour long, they always pack so much into these shows. A new challenger for the interim AEW World Championship was determined in a Royal Rampage match. We got another great tag-team match, and a great grudge match. Let’s jump into what happened.

The Royal Rampage

The battle royal match kicked off AEW Rampage. The Royal Rampage is a battle royal with two rings. 10 men are in each ring and compete in that ring until there are two people left. Once there are two people left, they will face each other in a traditional battle royal match. Hangman Page and Powerhouse Hobbs started in the Red Ring, and Darby Allin and Tony Nese started in the blue ring. The other entrants came out fairly quickly. Max Caster came out and did his usual rap performance on the way to the ring. Besides Billy, the rest of the Gunn Club were not there with the Acclaimed.

Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee had a cool spot as both men entered one after another, but in separate rings. Swerve Strickland eliminated Lee in a battle royal to get a shot at becoming the interim world champion. Their relationship has been rocky ever since then. The last men were Brody King and Darby Allin. The size difference between these two is massive. They went back and forth for a little, and Brody King ended up winning. Overall, this match was really fun and entertaining. Brody King will now face Jon Moxley for the interim AEW World Championship on next week’s episode of Dynamite.

Winner: Brody King

We Hear From HOOK

We heard from HOOK for the first time since he beat The DKC at the Forbidden Door. In typical HOOK fashion, he didn’t say much. In fact, he said one sentence.

Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI vs The Young Bucks (c)

This was a non-title match between two of the best tag-teams in the world. The Young Bucks caught wind that Goto and HASHI wanted to wrestle them. They said there were going to have to earn a shot at the tag-team titles by beating them first. If Goto and HASHI won, they would have earned a future shot at the AEW Tag-Team Championships. Goto and HASHI are former IWGP Heavyweight Tag-Team Champions. They dropped the belts to FTR at Forbidden Door and are looking to recapture gold.

The match was great, as every tag-team match is in AEW. Goto and HASHI showed why they are one of the best tag-teams in the world. Having wrestlers who are in NJPW wrestle on AEW is always a good idea, as it gives them a lot of exposure to a new audience. The match was hard-hitting and physical. Ultimately, the Young Bucks picked up the victory and asserted their dominance once again.

Winner: The Young Bucks (c)

Toni Storm vs Nyla Rose

Storm and Rose were set to face off in a grudge match. Rose is a former AEW Women’s Champion, and she is currently the number one ranked women’s wrestler on the roster. Toni Storm is the third rank women’s wrestler, so a win for either of these women might earn them a title shot. Rose helped Marina Shafir attack Storm after Storm defeated Shafir. Ever since then, they have had beef with each other.

This match was better than I expected. It was very physical and delivered in every aspect. Rose dominated for most of the match, but Toni Storm capitalized when she could. Storm hit the hip attack and went to pin Rose, but Shafir grabbed her and brought Rose to the outside. She took care of both Rose and Shafir outside of the ring, though. Storm stayed on the offense for most of the remainder of the match, ultimately earning her the win. After the match, Shafir attacked Storm until Thunder Rosa Came out to even the odds.

Winner: Toni Storm
