AEW Dynamite Preview (8/10/22): Multiple Titles On The Line

AEW Dynamite is set to feature some big-time matches. They have been creating names for their weekly shows to make them feel like a pay-per-view. This one is called “Quake by the Lake” and the card looks really good. There are two title matches, a coffin match, and a grudge match. The show is going to be a good one, so here’s what to expect heading into it.

FTR Returns

FTR hasn’t had a match in AEW in over a month. They have competed in ROH and NJPW over that span since they are the ROH Tag Team Champions and IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions — FTR is also the AAA Tag Team Champions as well. Their last tag team bout took place at ROH Death Before Dishonor where they had an epic encounter with the Briscoes. Furthermore, fans have been calling that contest the match of the year. They are returning to Dynamite to cut a promo. I’m assuming it is going to be about what’s next for FTR. With AEW All Out under a month away, hopefully it’s a feud to build to a match at the show.

TBS Championship Match

Madison Rayne vs Jade Cargill (c)

Madison Rayne has been hired as a coach for the women’s division. Upon her arrival, she didn’t waste any time stepping foot in the ring. On AEW Rampage, she made her AEW debut and faced Leila Grey, a member of the Baddies. She impressed a lot of people in that match and proved she can still wrestle at a high level. After the match, Jade Cargill came out and tried to distract while Keira Hogan attacked Rayne. Rayne saw it coming and turned the tables on Hogan.

Cargill was hosting an open challenge this week and told Rayne to accept it, so she did and now she has a shot at the TBS title. Cargill has proven she is one of the most dominant wrestlers on the planet. She has yet to lose a match, sitting at 33-0. Rayne has a chance to shock the world and dethrone the TBS champion.

Tornado Tag Team Match

Lucha Bros vs Andrade el Idolo & Rush

Andrade el Idolo and Rush have been tormenting the Lucha Bros for weeks. They have removed both Rey Fenix and Penta’s masks. Removing a luchador’s mask is highly disrespectful in their culture. Fenix and Penta have a shot at revenge in the form of a Tornado Tag Team Match — which is the same as a normal match, but there are no tags as all men are in the ring at the same time. This match is extremely personal, and it is going to show. These are four men who don’t like each other and want to inflict pain. It is going to be a hard-hitting and non-stop action match that could very easily steal the show.

Coffin Match

Darby Allin vs Brody King (of House of Black)

Darby Allin and Brody King have a rivalry that dates back a couple of years — they just don’t like each other. Their hatred towards one another goes beyond AEW and a wrestling ring. King has attacked Allin at an autograph signing and a comic convention. King has the advantage in their rivalry winning five out of the six times they have faced each other. Meanwhile, Allin as an opportunity to get the ultimate revenge on King in this Coffin Match — a match where the only way to win is by putting your opponent in a coffin and closing it. There are no rules, so this one is going to be intense.

AEW World Championship Match

Chris Jericho (of Jericho Appreciation Society) vs Jon Moxley (c) (of Blackpool Combat Club)

Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley are a part of two groups who absolutely hate each other. The Blackpool Combat Club hates everything about the Jericho Appreciation Society. They have been feuding for the past couple of months and it has been intense. These two groups have had their fair share of encounters with each other. Moxley and Jericho are no strangers to each other either. Moxley beat Jericho in 2020 to become the second-ever AEW champion. This is the second time these two will face off in an AEW ring, so this match feels special. Moxley has been on a tear since becoming AEW champion. He has had title defense after title defense and knocked all his opponents down. He is looking to prove that professional wrestling is better than sports entertainment on this episode of AEW Dynamite.
