It seems like Aaron Rodgers is turning a new leaf on the Jets. Rodgers has shifted from the hated, grumpy quarterback to a guy who is taking a pay cut and praising his teammates. Let’s be honest, Rodgers would never take a pay cut on the Packers. Now, the former California quarterback is praising Zach Wilson, saying “(Wilson) is playing really, really well in camp.”
New York had a serious quarterback issue last season, with Wilson, Joe Flacco, Mike White and Chris Streveler all cycling through under center. Combined, the four quarterbacks threw for just over 4,000 yards and only 14 touchdowns.
New York started off hot with a 6-3 record, but would quickly cool down to finish 7-10 and miss the playoffs.
“I hope this time for him is like a deep inhale and exhale and he can really take a breath and pause and deal with the disappointment of last year and the frustration, and then channel it,” Rodgers said, via PFT. “I feel like he has, just re-channel it as a positive and focus on the opportunity in front of him to learn with a guy who loves him and cares about him and wants him to be great and wants him to do incredible things every day and be better.”
Wilson has gotten off to a very, very poor start in his NFL career, posting 15 passing touchdowns and 18 interceptions on just above 55% completion. But things are looking brighter for the former second overall pick.
“He has played really, really well in camp,” Rodgers said. “He’s made a number of great throws. He looks confident. His fundamentals are improving. He’s throwing the ball on time. He’s got all the intangibles. … I think he’ll look back years from now and be really thankful for this time to grow, to reset, to take a breath, and it’s gonna set him up for a nice long career in the league.”
Can Rodgers help Wilson grow into the player he was once thought to be? Or will he stay as a major bust? Let us know in the comments down below.
