Jeff Fisher Rips Matt Nagy For Obsessing Over Double Doink Missed Field Goal

Jeff Fisher
I never thought I would ever defend Jeff Fisher. That day is today. (NFL.com)

Jeff Fisher and Matt Nagy. Both men have something in common. Both men experienced heartbreak in the playoffs. Kevin Dyson came up one yard short of a Super Bowl title. The Bears came up one field goal short of beating the Eagles in the playoffs. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, didn’t happen.

Anyway, both men have handled the heartbreak differently. Fisher essentially refused to watch the Super Bowl loss and turned the page. Matt Nagy is obsessing over his. Nagy continues to show the missed field goal over and over again.

Jeff Fisher doesn’t like the way Nagy is handling the loss. So much so that he ripped Nagy pretty good:

“You know, none of us are in his locker room. We don’t know the chemistry of his team. It’s his team and it’s his choice,” Fisher said Friday, chiming in as a guest analyst on NFL Total Access. “Now, I don’t think I’d want to be a place kicker on his team right now. That’s a hard job right there, because you’re gonna watch [the missed kick] every day.”

“This is Coach Nagy’s, it’s his prerogative to do what he wants,” Fisher said. “At some point he’s gonna let it go. Some point they need to go ahead and win a football game, you know that’s months away from now.”

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever envision myself defending Jeff Fisher. That day is today. Matt Nagy has to let it go. He’s putting so much negative karma on his team that he’s just asking for it to happen again. Go watch the Secret. It’s a great film that I recommend. Nagy needs some of that positive energy in his life. Move on and fix the problem. Instead, he’s obsessing over it and signing kickers like Chris Blewitt. No wonder why everyone is making fun of him.

Let’s stop pretending like the kicker is the only reason why the Bears lost that playoff game. Mitchell Trubisky could have easily thrown 5 or 6 interceptions in that game. He’s horrendous. Nagy is a great coach. He’s taken Trubisky has far as he can go. You’re not winning titles with that guy running the offense. Just isn’t happening. I would spend more time trying to find a new quarterback before obsessing on the kicker. I don’t love PFF’s data for everything, but it’s not an accident that Mitchell Trubisky is the 33rd ranked quarterback in the NFL. The guy stinks. Not debatable.

If you want the kicking issue solved so bad, give up a draft pick for Robbie Gould. I don’t see why this is so hard. I also never thought I’d see the day I would defend Jeff Fisher. He’s kind of right. I wouldn’t want to be their kicker either. One, because the quarterback rarely gets it into the end zone despite having the best defense in the NFL. Two, because the pressure Nagy is putting on the position isn’t normal. Kuddos to you, Jeff Fisher. I don’t know how you weaseled praise out of me, but you did it.
