Denver Broncos 2019 NFL Draft War Room

2019 NFL Draft

The Denver Broncos are Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, and a bunch of parts. Will John Elway finally find his quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft? Let’s head inside the war room (Hyoung Chang/The Denver Post via Getty Images)

It’s hard to describe the Denver Broncos. I don’t think they are well run and John Elway has missed on his fair share of quarterbacks. Outside of convincing Peyton Manning to sign with Denver, Elway hasn’t done much right. This offseason, he landed Joe Flacco but that shouldn’t change the draft strategy. Maybe it will but who knows with Elway. What will Denver do during the 2019 NFL Draft? Let’s head inside the war room.

First Round (Pick 10) – I think this is the Drew Lock landing spot. I’m not sure if they have to move up or down but I think Elway likes him. I like Lock but don’t love him. He’s a great arm talent. Lock had some accuracy issues at Mizzou but he can really zip it. He’s not the same height as Elway but I think he will like his pure stuff. Flacco should be considered a short term fix. Whatever quarterback Denver likes, go get him.

Second Round (Pick 41) – Anytime you pick inside the top ten, chances are your roster isn’t very good. That means there’s a lot of options out there. This second round range is going be a spot where one of those defensive tackles falls. Jeffery Simmons may be available considering he has a torn ACL. Maybe Dexter Lawrence falls if teams just think he is a two-down player. It’s a fantastic defensive line group. If one of those studs are on the board. Denver should pick him.

Third Round (Pick 72) – The third round should be a place where the Broncos look for weapons. Emmanuel Sanders, Courtland Sutton, and DaeSean Hamilton is fine but where’ the tight end? Josh Oliver, Dax Raymond, and Jace Sternberger are potential picks here. Denver hasn’t had a playmaking tight end since Julius Thomas. Anyone that has watched Joe Flacco over the years knows that he LOVES tight ends. Get him his Dennis Pitta and the Broncos can win some games.

When Denver was good, they had a dominant defense. This current defense is not close to that Super Bowl team. They do have Von Miller and Bradley Chubb but that’s it. The linebacker group needs work. The secondary needs work. Even the interior defensive line needs work. John Elway has a lot of work to do.
