Kyler Murray has spoken and he has decided that baseball is out. Murray has picked football over baseball and will pursue a career in the NFL. I’m not sure this is much of a surprise after Murray declared for the NFL Draft just a short time ago. Murray is all in on the NFL and will perform at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine and the Oklahoma Pro Day.

Murray shared his thoughts via twitter:

“Moving forward, I am firmly and fully committing my life and time to becoming an NFL quarterback.”

Kyler Murray was selected 9th overall in the 2018 MLB Draft by Oakland. Murray will forfeit $4.6 million the A’s gave him to play football. Again, I’m not sure why the Athletics ever let him play baseball in the first place. Oakland could have very easily banned him from playing football at Oklahoma or they could have not signed him. Instead, because of that foolishness, the Athletics will lose their pick and not receive a compensatory pick for losing Murray to the NFL.

I would assume that Murray has been given assurances that he is going to go in the first round. He may even go with the first pick. Who knows? At this point, it’s safe to bet that he will go anywhere from the first to the third quarterback off the board and lands in the first round somewhere.

The combine will be huge for Murray. His height will be just one question mark. Speed and arm accuracy will be another. He should cross the latter two off that list very easily. Either way, it’s a terrible day for baseball that loses another premier talent that could have given the sport much-needed attention.
