Joe Douglas: Aaron Rodgers is ‘gonna be here’

New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas was confident on Friday night. He claimed that Aaron Rodgers is going to be a New York Jet.

Douglas’ quote was overly confident, but you can’t say that he’s wrong. The rumors have been flying about Rodgers to New York for weeks now. As of right now, Rodgers is still a Packer.

Douglas was attending a “Boomer and Gio Live” charity event hosted by WFAN.

“Aaron Rodgers, when’s he coming?” Boomer Esiason asked Douglas. “He’s gonna be here” Douglas said with a smile.

The crowd exploded after this one. Of course, Jets fans really want Douglas and the team to get this deal done so that Rodgers can officially be a Jet. Clearly, the Jets are ready to do whatever it takes to get Rodgers, even down to building the roster with his friends. I don’t think that there’s ever been a player to have more control over a team he’s not even on than Rodgers with the Jets.

Rodgers’ Checklist

Say what you want about the ethics of demanding roster construction for a team you’re not even on, but the Jets have begun to bend the knee. They’re already in the process of building this team to Rodgers’ liking.

First, they signed wide receiver Allen Lazard. Lazard was one of the checklist players on Rodgers’s wish list. Recently, they signed backup quarterback Tim Boyle, a friend of Rodgers and the backup in Green Bay for a few seasons. One player they missed out on from Rodgers’ wish list is Odell Beckham Jr., who just signed elsewhere.

Rodgers publicly said that it is his intention to play for the Jets on the Pat McAfee show a few weeks ago.

This trade won’t happen for a couple more weeks. The clock is ticking for sure, but there’s plenty of time before these two teams need to make a move. I think this trade happens on draft night. Who knows what the deal consists of at this time, it’s impossible to know.

Joe Douglas has made some strong moves with the Jets in his tenure, building a roster with a lot of potentials. Is it the Jets’ time to shine with Rodgers on his way to town?
