Stetson Bennett 2023 NFL Draft Profile

That’s back-to-back champion Stetson Bennett to you! That’s who we’re talking about today in the 2023 NFL Draft profile series. Bennett will go down as a collegiate legend, but how do his prospects of succeeding at the NFL level look? Let’s get right to it.

Everyone is looking for their Brock Purdy. The truth of the mater is, Purdy is probably a nobody without Kyle Shanahan so it’s a feeble point. When it comes to Bennett, the size obviously isn’t ideal (5-foot-11). Not a big track record of quarterbacks under 6-foot succeeding at the NFL level.

The positive is that there is underrated athletic traits underneath all of that. A 4.67 40 time for any quarterback is legit. His arm strength is also incredibly understated. It’s a really good arm and the combine did a great job of showing just that. Bennett is incredible at avoiding pressure within the pocket. Yes, The Georgia offensive line is really good but Bennett was sacked just 24 times over the last two years while playing 29 games. We saw on more than one occasion how he’s really able to shake defenders out of their boots and make something out of nothing.

A big thing with quarterbacks is having the ability to shine at the biggest moments. Bennett has always elevated his game during Bowl season. I just fail to see how Georgia wins had he maintained his regular season play for Bowl season. When the moment is the biggest, Bennett has come through for his side. How about this stat. The Georgia product has a 19-3 TD to INT ratio in his six postseason games while completing 67.7% of his throws.

At the core, we’re still talking about a former walk-on who is now 25. It’s not a total Brandon Weeden situation but we’re getting close. Kirby Smart literally told him he had to leave because Carson Beck needs to play. Bennett probably shouldn’t be drafted but by all means, invite him to your roster for preseason action. Best case scenario here, you’re probably looking at a savvy undersized backup with plus mobility.
