Stetson Bennett: What does his draft stock look like?

One of the most prolific quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft class has scouts scratching their heads. Georgia signal caller Stetson Bennett had one of the best college careers in recent memory, but his outlook in the NFL is up for debate. Does he have the tools that will translate to the next level, or will he go undrafted and without a team? Let’s dive into the pros and cons.

Pros

The biggest plus for Bennett is his legs. His ability to escape the pocket and pick up yards on the ground proved to be a game-changer, especially during the College Football Playoff.

Next is his release. Bennett can get rid of the ball in a hurry which will always be a plus in the NFL. Quick release with a solid ability to scan the field and make smart throws is something of note.

He also knows how to lead a locker room, which seems to be a lacking trait among these younger quarterbacks coming into the league. It was clear during his time at Georgia he had completely won the locker room and those guys on offense listened and responded to Bennett.

Cons

He’d be lucky to measure out at 5-foot-11. He looks like a small child next to some of those monsters on the Georgia offensive line. At 190 pounds, how will his frame hold up if he’s sacked 25 or more times a year or more?

I also don’t love his arm talent. His ball lacks zip and if his feet aren’t set, he loses quite a bit of accuracy. Some of the quarterbacks in this draft class have missile arms, and his is a Nerf water pistol.

I would also like to see him work on his deep ball. Throughout the year, he would put too much air under his throws down the field.

Summary

If I was a general manager in the NFL, I’m not touching Stetson Bennett with a 10-foot pole.

The league seems to be transitioning to tall boys with big arms who can run. Bennett checks just one of those boxes. His frame is my biggest knock against him, which is obviously something he can’t help, I am aware.

However, there’s going to be a team that takes a late-round flyer on him. I would put his range in the draft at rounds six or seven.

I don’t think he goes undrafted, but he is not going to be selected in the early to middle rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft.
