Longtime Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers signs a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders
After being undrafted in 2019 and signing with the Patriots, Jakobi Meyers has signed a new deal with the Las Vegas Raiders worth $33 million over three. Via Ian Rapoport.
The three-year deal includes 21 million guaranteed, and Meyers will be joining another former Patriot in Las Vegas as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo agreed to terms with the team yesterday amid the first wave of the legal tampering period.
Meyers went undrafted in 2019 after four years at North Carolina State. During college, Meyers played two positions, WR and QB. After two seasons as a freshman, Meyers made the switch from QB to WR. He instantly found success as WR in his sophomore and junior campaigns. He posted almost 1,800 receiving yards, nine touchdowns, and over 150 catches in those two seasons for the Wolfpack. Some notable names who were selected drafted instead of Meyers are Marquise Brown, N’Keal Harry, Deebo Samuel, A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf, and Terry McLaurin.
As a Patriot, Meyers has been their best receiver for the past three seasons. They have had many struggles over the last few seasons with finding a true number-one wide receiver. With Meyers, he has established himself as the Patriots’ number one. Over his four-year career, Meyers has continued to be a serviceable receiver in the NFL. He has posted almost 3,000 yards in four seasons for the Patriots as well as 235 catches, and eight touchdowns. Six of those came in the 2022-23 campaign. Although he hasn’t eclipsed 1,000 yards in a single season, Meyers has shown a lot of promise for the Patriots and will continue to do so for the Raiders.
