Colts Name Jeff Saturday Interim Coach
Now that’s a choice. After Frank Reich was fired, it remained very unclear who the next interim head coach was going to be. Reich fired offensive coordinator Marcus Brady so he wasn’t an option. Matt Eberflus likely would have been next but he’s obviously the Bears head coach. Jim Irsay went full weird mode. ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday is making the leap to the sidelines and has now been named the new interim head coach.

Does anybody else find this move weird? You should. Saturday, 47, was a consultant for the team but also was the head coach for Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula, Georgia. The timing seems odd considering that Saturday was in Indianapolis last weekend with a group of former teammates. Did Saturday really plant this seed while he was off celebrating Tarik Glenn going into the Colts’ ring of honor?
I would assume ESPN is on hold for Saturday while he takes the reigns for the Colts. Is Saturday actually in the mix for the job long term? He has no real NFL experience in the coaching ranks. Saturday’s claim to fame is being Peyton Manning’s center during the Colts haydays. Is that actually enough to be a real NFL head coach? Call me skeptical.
I just want to know if Chris Ballard is next. He’s gotta be next. Will Irsay really let Ballard go into another offseason know that he’s failed to land any answer at the quarterback position? How many chances does Ballard get?
