Can Someone Explain What The Brewers’ Plan Was For Dinelson Lamet?
Does David Stearns understand he just traded Josh Hader? Does he also understand that maybe you shouldn’t trade for Dinelson Lamet as part of the trade package if you quite literally don’t have room on your roster for him? Somehow that’s exactly what happened.
The Brewers traded for Dinelson Lamet. Told everyone he was part of their plans. Then cut him. Don’t tell me I couldn’t be a general manager. I’d run laps around these idiots.
“Dinelson has a good arm and was included in the trade to help balance out the deal,” Stearns says. “As subsequent transactions played out, the roster fit became a little tougher. We are hopeful we will be able to keep him in our system.”

Want to hear the best part? The Brewers had to cut him because they traded for Trevor Rosenthal and Matt Bush subsequently ran out of roster spots. I’m not sure who’s going to win executive of the year but it sure as shit can’t go to Stearns. How do you trade for a guy and not realize you ran out of roster spots? It’s like slapping a sign on your forehead that you have the IQ of a dead rat.
I’m not sure if Lamet is going to clear waivers or not. Based on his performance this season, I wouldn’t be totally surprised if he went unclaimed despite a reasonable $4.775 million salary. Lamet is also arbitration eligible this offseason so he comes with an extra year of control. Lamet also has options remaining but can’t be sent down without his consent because he passed five years of MLB service time. Long story short; the Brewers are going to lose him for nothing days after giving up Josh Hader.
I have news for the Brewers front office. He’s not taking a minor league assignment. You can kiss that pipedream goodbye.
The Hader trade only continues to look worse. San Diego has Hader under team control for next season. Stearns acquired Taylor Rodgers in return who is a pure rental. Having Lamet as part of the deal made the deal at least look semi logical given you’re acquiring a starter with one more year of control.
I don’t know what logic system Stearns is using but it’s gotta go. Can you make up how dumb this is? What’s the plan here? Are Brewer fans outraged because they should be!
