Justyn Ross Hopes NFL Teams Still View Him As Elite WR Prospect

Justyn Ross was a freshman phenom. A legit true freshman as well. In his freshman year at Clemson, he had 1,000 yards and 9 TDs, including 6 catches for 153 yards and a TD in the National Championship game over Alabama. Ross was viewed as the next big receiver prospect, with NFL teams already salivating at the idea of drafting him to their team. He has the frame (6’4, 205 lbs), the catch radius, and the hands to back up his stats and impressive play. Unfortunately for Ross, things started to take a downward spiral.

His second year at Clemson wasn’t bad necessarily, catching 66 passes for 865 yards and 8 TDs, but it just wasn’t the leap many scouts were expecting him to make. Going into his Junior year, Ross suffered a stinger in practice. This injury led to him getting medical testing, which revealed he had a potentially serious congenital spinal condition that caused him to miss his entire junior season. Ross came back last season for the Tigers, but he had career lows in almost every single category. He then shut down his season early to get surgery for stress fractures in his foot.

Justyn Ross is hoping that teams still see the value he had on display during his true freshman year.

Full quote via PFT via NBCSports.com:

“Once a team gets me, they’re going to get everything out of me,” Ross told ESPN. “I’m still that same player everybody knows.”

The NFL Draft is April 28-31. It will be interesting to see how many NFL teams do and do not have Justyn Ross on their big boards because of the medical concerns. If Ross can get back to his freshman ways and show that potential and truly make the leap many expected him to, he is going to make one GM in the league look like a genius.
